K3 - Roller Disco
I was recently blown away by this album from K3, so here's a review to try to convince everyone to listen.
1) Luka Luna - This song kicks off the album with a summery, tropical track that's sure to get you dancing. A solid start for the album.
2) Roller Disco - The titular song is an incredibly groovy track with great vocals and instrumental hooks, and I haven't been able to stop listening to it! It makes me actually want to go to a roller disco. It deserves to be played at every party!
3) Leve de Cowboys - As the name suggests, this is a country/western styled track, something to which bubblegum is no stranger. As usual, the combination produces an awesome and novel track you'll want to listen to all the time.
4) Wie Wordt Straks M'n Liefje - A more traditional bubblegum dance sound on this track, which is hard to fault. I particularly like the bass on this song which keeps it moving nicely.
5) Whoppa! - Compared to the other songs on the album, this one feels a bit more generic. The guitar riffs are a nice touch though.
6) Mooier Dan Je Denkt - This slower, acoustic song is a change of pace for sure, but that's no bad thing after 5 high energy dance tracks. This song really puts the focus on the beautiful singing voices.
7) La La Later - We're back into the dance with this song. The chorus in particular is catchy and memorable, and the repeated section after the chorus is also great. An awesome track.
8) Hey Mister Deejay - I wouldn't call this one particularly unique or original, and the chorus is quite repetitive. However, I couldn't help getting hyped as the instrumentation ramped up in the last chorus.
9) Musiek - The groovy bass rhythms drive this song, but the brass that joins in around halfway through is also great. Another solid track.
10) Bambolaya - This one jumps right in with yet another awesome dance track. Both verse and chorus are catchy but the 'la'ed link is probably my favourite part.
11) Liefde Geeft Je Vleugels - This track is quite jazzy, and I'm a sucker for all the horns. I can picture this being a good fit for a beach party and the claps definitely help that festive vibe. Love this one!
12) De Tafel Van K3 - This is another highly danceable song with varied instrumentation, which sums up the vibe of the album well and serves as a fitting conclusion.
My only complaints in this review are nitpicks, so I'm going to give this album a score of 10/10! All the songs are catchy with most being unique and original. You'd think that after two decades of releasing music K3 would run out of steam, but no - this is one of the strongest albums out there. Wholeheartedly recommend!
