Another year is here, which means another DanceDanceRevolution game is coming our way. This year's round of DDR games seems to be a little different though.
First off, it's just called....well, DanceDanceRevolution. They seem to be trying to reinvent the game for a broader audience, so they are simply naming it DDR at the moment, with no subtitle. They are doing a similar thing with Karaoke Revolution too.
Another big difference this year us the fact that this will be a multi-platform release. Most years, Konami makes at least three completely different DDR games for different platforms. This year, all four games (PS2, Wii, Xbox 360, and for the first time PS3) will have the same "foundation" but still have considerable differences, which I'll discuss below.
A third major change is that DDR's licenses are going pure master tracks. No covers here. The license list is also full of well-known popular songs.
As I mentioned, DDR will be released for four major platforms, but each will be different in their own way. Each game will share the same 30 licensed songs and 20 new Konami originals, but each game will not have the same songlist. Here's a rundown of the differences in the games:
PS2
-Will feature songs from the Japanese games that have not been included in the United States games.
Wii
-New Balance Board mode. See video below for demostration.
-Another new mode that has not been revealed.
-New hand motions. Instead of just swinging your nunchucks wildly, you'll have to swing them in a certain direction to hit these (If a hand motion has an up arrow, you swing forward, for example).
Xbox 360/PS3
-150 songs available as downloadable content, consisting of both old and new tracks.
-Special Octo-Dance mode, which will allow expert players to use all four corners of their dance pad, as well as the standard left-down-right-up directions.
Now, to the good part, the confirmed songlist!
Licenses:
Boogie Wonderland / Earth Wind & Fire
Closer / Ne-Yo
Daft Punk Is Playing At My House / LCD Sound System
Disturbia / Rihanna
Dream on Dreamer / Brand New Heavies
Feel Good Inc. /Gorillaz
Ice Ice Baby / Vanilla Ice
I'm Coming Out / Diana Ross
My Prerogative/Bobby Brown
One Step At A Time / Jordin Sparks
Pocketful of Sunshine / Natasha Bedingfield
Space Dance / Danny Tenaglia
When I Grow Up / The Pussycat Dolls
Viva La Vida / Coldplay
Konami Originals:
A Brighter Day / NAOKI feat. Alisha G
Dynamite Rave / NAOKI
Taking It To The Sky / U1 feat. Tammy S Hansen
What Will Come Of Me / Black Rose Garden
Not much Bubblegum, but lots of Dance and Pop songs for sure. I think Dream on Dreamer is Bubblegum maybe? ^^;
By the way, here's some videos from the E3 game show!
At Konami's press conference, famed Bemani artist Naoki Maeda demonstrates the new Balance Board Mode on the Wii edition of the game:
