I first learned about this group in a popular Mexican entertainment magazine called Eres. There was a small section that talked about this new group of three girls that went by the name Lula Pop. In the description they were described as a dance group which is rare to see because most pop music that has a Euro-dance influence is always classified as pop. I began looking for this in ’99 but couldn’t find anything about this group, until I came across a Mexican online music store where they had a sample of their hit “Amor de Colores” I heard it and I was shocked to hear that it had a very bouncy Euro-Trance dance sound so that made me want it even more, when I tried ordering the CD online they immediately said that the album could not be sold outside of Mexico, so my friend was going to go for two weeks and she bought it for me. This is such an amazing girly bubblegum dance album, the vocals and beats are insanely good.
1. Amor de colores- 7/10 their hit single, although this version was not released in radios, instead the Dance mix version was, which caught the attention of many. This version is a little bit slower than the dance mix and it has a more jungle House sound to it. Since I had only heard the dance mix I really never liked this version, until now. The vocals are really good because the three girls sing in unison which is really rare because it’s hard to match up their voices.
2. En su orbita- 10/10 This song is my favorite, I love the bass beat and the vocals, this song talks about the love relationship between the sun and the moon, which makes it a very sweet song, I have definitely heard this one more than one hundred times. This is a really bubbly happy song.
3. Amigas- 10/10 this has a more Euro-dance sound, this song talks about friendship and sticking together until the end. This song has really catchy lyrics, good vocals, and a very cool beat.
4. Intentando- 10/10 the only slow song in the album, really cool beat though, and the lyrics are not that bad, this song talks about trying to get the one you love to love you back the same way.
5. Amor de colores (Acoustic version) - 9/10 this song is just a way of showing that they can sing and that their vocals are not fixed or arranged in a computer. This has a more pop sound so I’m not a big fan of it; I just love to hear that they can actually sing.
6. Moreno- 10/10 this song has a Euro-House beat, its really good and very different, this song is talking about a guy that their crushing on at a club who has bronze color skin. This was their 2nd single released and it was huge in Mexican night clubs and TV shows.
7. Baby- 10/10 this song is great it has a great beat and it has great catchy lyrics, definitely another favorite, well I like them all but this one falls among the first I play, this song is talking about an obsession on a guy who they know likes them back and flaunts himself at them, really good happy song.
8. Noches de calma- 10/10 this is another bubbly song with an awesome beat. This song talks about how calm nights bring out their wild side and increase their obsession for things. I absolutely love this song and its speed.
9. Si te vas- 10/10 the beat for this is really catchy and different it reminds me of Smile.dk, such a great song that talks about what would happen if they lost their true love. The bass beat is great and the other beats I really can’t describe but their amazing. You really fall for the beat and the vocals.
10. Planeta de los Sueños- 10/10 this has more of a trance sound, great arrangements, the progression of this album kept surprising me because they really tweak their beats to avoid similar sounds, this song talks about the journey trough the world of dreams.
11. Que es lo major- 10/10 great dance song with tropical sounds, definitely influenced by the merengue and salsa beats from Mexico, with a very upbeat euro-dance twist, love this is really bubbly and kind of gives a sense of summer, almost all euro-dance albums have a song that has a summer flare, this song talks about the choices a persons got when it comes to understanding love and pain and makes you wonder whether it is best to erase love to ease your pain or live in pain knowing you have loved.
12. Amor de colores (dance mix)- 10/10 this is the best song, it has an insane beat and catchy rhythm, definitely the best mix I’ve ever heard. This song talks about the different stages of love.
Lula Pop is an amazing group and this album is amazing, it was about time somebody tried to make their own dance project in Mexico specially since Euro-dance is so popular in that country, Aqua, Eiffel 65, Alice Deejay, and the Vengaboy’s all have made it into the top ten of English music mainstream charts in Mexico, so I was happy to hear this material their projection of dance music is perfect and for that reason I give this album and group a 10.
