Where to start? You will probably say that when you come across "The Party Album!", the extraordinary debut album by the Vengaboys. Released in 1998, the album is filled with electrifying songs with a eurodance beat, with a touch of bubblegum dance to make the album even more special and energetic. With The Party Album!, the Vengaboys are able to create and consolidate their style, making it unique and recognizable anywhere on planet Earth.
To start the album on the right foot, "We Like To Party!" as the opening track for The Party Album. Certainly a great song to open the album, as it sums up, by itself, the whole essence of Vengaboys as a whole, in terms of their image and style; a really good way to start the album. The second track is "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" and it is undoubtedly one of the most well-known releases by Vengaboys, because its eurodance beat with bubblegum dance style leaves the music with a friendly, energetic and contagious atmosphere, which makes us want to dance and sing for several hours. I loved the hook of the chorus, the impeccable Organ bass (their trademark), Kim's vocals and especially the bridge, because this is where the song seems to want to gain strength, together with the screams of the vocalists. Definitely the highlight on the album. After this big hit, we are immediately surprised "Ho Ho Vengaboys!" which is another almost unknown highlight of The Party Album. This song is very well produced in detail, besides being very captivating and memorable and, probably, it will make you dance until your shoes wear out, it is so danceable that it is. I don't know why they didn't release this song as a single, as it would be quite appropriate.
The next track is "Up & Down", which is one of Vengaboys' biggest hits and was the responsible song that made them famous. Although the lyrics are only 'Up & Down', it is very pleasant and chewing gum, because when you hear it, you won't get it out of your head anytime soon. Great vocal and great musical arrangement, made this song the most memorable of this band, and why not from the 90's?! "We're Going To Ibiza" is definitely one of the most amazing songs that Vengaboys could have in their hit repertoire, as well as being one of my favorite songs of theirs. Unlike the other tracks, this is the only one on The Party Album (and the first one) that has a 'reggae beat', yet still maintains its exciting bubblegum dance as style as always. I loved the synth blocks early on, as they give a really cool impression on the song (and were very accurate). We must not forget the extraordinary hook of the chorus, as it is quite memorable and addictive that you should not miss.
The next track, "Parada de Tettas", is a very addictive and somewhat comical song. I loved it and at the same time I found Kim Sasabone's hilarious speech throughout the song funny, as if he always wanted to 'alert' us to something by saying 'la parada de tettas' and 'vengababy'. Then, the Vengaboys manage to show all their 'swing' on the track "To Brazil!", A totally special track that completely pays homage to Brazil and its people. Following the same sound concept as Parada de Tettas, the song stands out for a very striking melody followed by a very contagious chorus and a wonderful and stunning beat, not to mention the samba block that is presented in the song. The song incorporates elements of a famous Brazilian popular song "Aquarela do Brasil", which has been re-recorded more than 399 times and was composed by Ary Barroso. Throughout the song, Kim Sasabone speaks fluent Portuguese words like "Te amo Brasil! Saudades" (I love you Brazil! miss you) and "Amo você gostoso" (I love you delicious).
The remaining tracks on the album seem a little "filling", "amateur" and "weak" to me, due to the fact that all of them are more instrumental and really are not as impactful as the others, so you can hook your listener to the end, although "The Vengabeat" is still a good track.
"The Party Album" is my favorite Vengaboy album because it is the most exciting and provocative bubblegum eurodance. I recommend this album for bubblegum dance/eurodance fans who like an energetic sound that mixes a little bit of everything. Actually the album is almost totally flawless, except for the final tracks, as mentioned, which are really not so good, because they lacked more creativity and emotion in them. But other than that, it's a captivating production album and a great musical composition.
