Here is my K3 top 10, which was ludicrously difficult to make. Feel free to share your picks.
10) Bikini vol zand - The actual singing itself is probably at its best during this song. I love the mixing, and it's relatable. We all get sand in annoying places.
9) Play-O - I think this is the highest energy K3 song, and must be used sparingly because in the best possible way, you can press play on the song, and 3 minutes later discover that you broke something. You're just not quite there... the music takes over. It's an experience.
8) Lollipopland - This song appeals to the inner childlike wonder, dreaming of ruling a kngdom of sweets... you can briefly be taken away from the troubles of this life.
7) La la later - This is an album filler from Roller Disco no one ever talks about, which is a tragedy. Firstly, it's interesting in concept, telling something of an origin story for the members of the group. Secondly, it's delightfully melodic and creates an earworm in the post-chorus.
6) Meiden van de brandweer - This high energy pop hit gets me pumped. It's so exciting and creative how they incorporate the sounds of the fire brigade into the song. It's also really funny because the protagonists of the song are just killjoys who don't want anyone to fall in love, which is the opposite of the usual K3 fare.
5) Superhero - Very different to most K3 output, but who cares when it's this awesome. They should dip into this kind of music more if they're this good at it.
4) De wereld van K3 - For me, this is the most K3 K3 song. It is like the theme song of the group, welcoming you into their world. There are a few songs I like more but it basically demonstrates everything I like about them.
3) Vriendschap - I'm pretty sure this is just the most wholesome song ever. The final acapella chorus... I'm not crying, you are. If De wereld van K3 is the group's theme song, this is the finale, if that makes sense.
2) Bambolaya - Another ridiculously underrated album filler from Roller Disco! It's a beautiful one about how a special someone can brighten up your day - just like this song. It has another very catchy link. No one ever talks about this one... should have been a single over Whoppa, for sure. It has escaped any compilation release. Is there some grand conspiracy to hide this amazing song from the world?
1) Mamasé - It's a classic for a reason. K3 themselves know it's the best, having it serve as the climax for their 'Zo een liedje' medley. Everyone can sing along with the chorus, the dance moves are easy to learn - it has universal appeal. And it references so many other hits... this deserves the spot for sure.
